history

Australian Mower Supply (AMS) has been a family owned and run business since 1964. Owned and operated by the Hewes family since 1974, Russell Hewes has recently passed the ownership of AMS over to the Golland Family, with Michael and Roger now operating the business, ensuring it remains family owned and operated for many years to come. 

Over this time, AMS has grown to be one of Melbourne’s most trusted suppliers of outdoor power equipment, from the domestic home users, to not only councils and government departments but also lawn and garden contractors and domestic users. 

We are proud stockists of high quality outdoor power and garden tools, with our showroom full of equipment from leading brands including STIHL, Honda, Masport, Victa, Toro, Walker, and more. 

We stand behind every product we sell, and have a fully equipped workshop capable of servicing and repairing all types of outdoor power equipment. Our technicians are highly trained and qualified to service and repair most makes and models of all outdoor power equipment, ensuring your products continue to perform each and every time you use them.

Michael

Michael started his journey in the Power Equipment industry as a 15 year old doing two weeks work experience at AMS. After completing his apprenticeship and working for a number of dealers, he spent 15 years as national trainer for both Stihl and Honda (separately) training other mechanics in correct diagnostic and service techniques. Returning to AMS in 2022 as a workshop mechanic, he streamlined the workshop processes, and improved the already high quality of the servicing at AMS. Purchasing the business with his brother Roger in 2026, he now manages the workshop and oversees the training of new staff (apprentices / work experience students), and offers high quality repair advice to customers in the store. Now as an owner, Michael has come full circle in his journey with AMS, and looks forward to continuing the great work and reputation that AMS has with customers and the wider garden community.

roger

Roger joined AMS in 2026 after buying the business with Michael as an equal partner. Having 35+ years in the corporate world, Roger is responsible for the commercial operations of the business (“making sure we don’t go broke!”) and loves the interactions with customers on a day to day basis. Whilst not having a background in Power Equipment, he is learning fast and spends his time either at the counter with customers, or balancing the books in the front office. With a background in IT and business analytics, Roger is working on streamlining the business and bringing it into the digital age, with projects such as online service bookings, e-commerce, and other areas to not only make the business more efficient, but first and foremost to improve and enhance the customer’s experience both in store and online.

Paul

Paul manages the retail side of the business, and also engages with our larger commercial customers, managing the relationships with Local and Government customers, larger private companies, and our loyal contractor customers. Paul has extensive experience in the Stihl product range, having worked for Stihl directly for over 15 years, and thrives on helping both domestic and commercial customers with their questions and product needs, whether be that a small brushcutter for a domestic customer, or replacing a fleet of Ride On mowers for our larger customers, Paul will know the right solution for the right job. Always ready with a quick joke, or a funny story, life in the store is never boring with Paul at the helm of our retail division.

adam

Adam works along side Paul assisting customers in the retail space, and also manages our product delivery and spare parts division. With a background in landscaping and lawn care, Adam’s experience in caring for your garden is second to none. Whatever your lawn care requirements, from a simple and economical walk-behind mower, through to commercial grade mowers and chainsaws, Adam is the go-to person for any question you may have or garden problem you need to solve, bringing his real-world experience to the Power Equipment industry, with customers relying on his knowledge and experience to select the right product for their needs.

adam

Adam, following in Michael’s footsteps (yes, Adam is Michael’s son), has over 15 years experience in the Power Equipment industry and has specialized in our “Big’s”, working on anything from tractor-style and Zero-Turn Ride On mowers, through to skid-steer excavators, industry pumps, and everything in between. Adam also manages our tyre division, ensuring that whatever tyre your machine has, we can repair it. We have even repaired tyres on Aircraft towing equipment, demonstrating the width and breadth of our workshop capabilities and experience. Adam can often be found under a ride-on, replacing bearings, blades, and servicing the larger machines for our commercial customers, and places high importance on getting our commercial customers “back on the tools” as quickly as possible.

martin

Martin has worked in the Power Equipment industry for over 35 years, focusing on more domestic units, such as walk-behind mowers, brushcutters, and blowers. As a mechanic, Martin is very methodical, thorough, and ensures all areas of a particular machine are inspected, and assessed for long-term suitability. He takes great pride in ensuring the repair is done correctly, and will often take the time to call a customer to discuss their machine and repair, ensuring that when the machine is collected, it will provide many more years of faithful service to the customer. As a lover of sport, he can often be found during lunch discussing the latest AFL game with Paul, and loves a good dad-joke. Martin is currently working 3 days a week (Mon-Wed), sharing the workshop with Michael, Adam and Keith.

keith

Keith joined AMS in 2015, and is an expert on our “smalls”. Keith started his career as a diesel mechanic and ran his own business for many years, before downsizing and working for AMS. Always quick with a dad-joke, Keith loves a good chat, and takes great pride in servicing and repairing the smaller products. Like Martin, Keith focuses on providing a quality outcome for our customers, and takes great pride in ensuring the machines he works on start first time, every time. Keith, despite his best efforts to retire, can’t stay away from AMS, and currently works 3 days a week (Tues-Thurs) often spending lunch telling yet another funny story or anecdote to the other staff over a succulent Chinese meal (Keith prefers Mongolian beef, in case you were wondering).
